Can I use the pentax ist battery grip with a Samsung gx-1l?Just received one as a gift and was told its the same brand Samsung GX-1l is just a re-brand of the Pentax ist DL. Does anyone know if the battery grip for the pentax will work with the samsung.
I don't think Pentax ever made an official grip for their *ist DL DSLR. It made one for the *ist D but the base plate port was later removed rendering the Pentax BG-1 unusable with the newer and cheaper models like the DL, DS, and DS2 and their Samsung counterparts.
If you are talking about a third-party grip, they should be interchangeable (*ist DL with GX-1L). The shutter grips like the Dicain SG-1 only connect through the cable release port while battery grips like the OwnUser adaptation uses the DC IN and the cable release ports. The GX-1L is nearly identical to the *ist and have both of these universal ports. The Dicain SG-1 has been confirmed to work with the GX-1L and the OwnUser grip should work too. Because these DSLR models were never designed or intended for grips, ugliness seems to be an unfortunate attribute of such aftermarket products.
