Ignore laptop battery from software

I've always heard (and it has been my experience) that if you're using your notebook while it is plugged in for an extended time you shouldn't leave your battery fully charged. To deal with this issue I have always popped the laptop battery out of my old Sony as soon as it is done charging if I plan on using it at my desk for a while. This was quite easy on my Inspiron series  but with my new Macbook it is a bit of a hassle.

I have a question: Is there any sort of software (or is it even possible) that I could set to "ignore" my battery? Basically to act like it would were the battery unplugged, feeding directly from the AC outlet. I tried Googling for something like this but I just couldn't phrase it right.

My friend jack just tell me ignore it. Uncheck "show laptop battery in menu bar". Do not remove the laptop battery. As I understand it, that makes the computer run at half processor power. I ran my iBook and now my MBP plugged in 98% of the time and everything's fine.

Like my friend said, popping the laptop battery can result in performance losses, and its not necessary. You should try and run it through a conditioning cycle about once a month or so, especially if you run it plugged in a lot. There's info on what that entails, and you can even add it to iCal at www.battery-replacement.org

Dewalt cordless drill battery charger will not allow the battery to charge

When I place the 9V Sears dewalt cordless drill battery into the charger the evaluating light stays on and the battery will not take a charge. If I lift the battery out of the hole just a little bit and the evaluating light does not go on then the battery will charge. The problem is that the battery needs to be propped up very carefully and a spacer added to keep the battery from falling completely into the hole and this takes just the right tough. Many times I return to check the battery and the eval light is on and no charge. So I start again. Can the eval system be disabled?

I don't know if the evaluation system can be disabled or not, but if it's still in warranty you will certainly disable that if you take it apart. If it's not in warranty any more, then given the amount of trouble you have getting it to charge I'd certainly take it apart and try cutting the lines that go to the light. Maybe they are the ones that run the eval. system. Be careful when you do cut them as you could probably hook them back up if that isn't what you need done. In the meanwhile you could start watching on www.battery-replacement.org for a replacement battery charger. They can usually be had fairly cheap. And as a last resort, you could do as I do with my 12 volt batteries. I simply attach, usually by clamp, a couple of small bolts, to the contacts for charging the batt's, and then hook up my 12 volt car battery charger. 12 volts is 12 volts, no matter what charger is delivering it, so this works just fine. I've gone through several chargers that came with different battery tools, and I'm still charging the batteries with a car charger that I've had for over 10 years. The fact that it's 12 volts, simply means that the batteries will charge faster than the regular 9 volt charger. You'll have to keep an eye on them. I'd try 20 min's. as a place to start, if they don't seem charged enough at that, make the next charge a little longer, maybe 30 min's. Eventually you'll find the right combination.

Maybe I can Unplug the charger. Use rubbing alcohol and clean the contacts on the battery and charger. Does it happen with both batteries? If so then you probably have a bad charger. If its just one battery then that battery is bad. There isn't any way to disable the evaluation process most chargers check the battery when you first insert it

Cell Phone Battery Charger to charge a lithium ion battery

Does anyone know of a good external battery charger to charge a lithium ion battery?I am the unfortunate owner of an NOKIA N97 phone which has a rapid battery drain issue when it is turned off.

I don't like removing a perfectly good battery in order to reinstall a totally dead battery just so I can charge it in the phone. Beside the fact that it's a nuisance, I'm concerned about wear on a flimsy plastic part that was not designed to be opened & closed on a frequent basis. I tried a Universal charger that is made in China (come to think of it everything is made in China these days ) and it broke the 1st day before it had completely charged the battery even once.

Verizon doesn't carry an external charger, and Nokia doesn't make one. Any info you can pass on would be helpful and appreciated.

Though it is completely overkill for one battery, there are various battery charging products made by a company called Cadex that would charge, test and recondition (NiCd/NiMH) just about any type of battery. You may find one cheap on www.battery-replacmeent.org or somewhere because these are somewhat pricey new.

Another idea is to find the same phone on www.battery-replacement.org/cell-phone-batteries.html or Craigslist and use it as a battery charger only.

Ni-cad&Ni-mh&Li-ion battery’s life for your suggestion

I worked for a cell phone company for 8 years and did a lot of research on this subject so I could properly inform my customers. There are basically 3 types of chemicals currently being used for cell phone and laptop batteries. Ni-cad, Ni-mh and Li-ion. There is a fourth makineg its way in Li-ion polymer. A couple things are consistent for all types of batteries no matter what chemical is inside. You must initially give the battery a 12-14 hour charge on the home charger. (Don't use a cigarette adapter for the first charge. This conditions the battery and don't take it off the charger that first time even if the charging indicator says it's full after 3 hours. Also the manufacturer's also state to run it thru 3 charge cycles. What that mean's is that you fully charge and fully drain 3 times. 1 full charge + 1 full drain = 1 charge cycle. Here's where the way you charge the battery starts to differ.

Ni-cad: Mostly only on older devices, has a "memory" effect, should be drained before a full charge is put on it, should be removed after overnight charge or can be overcharged and burnt out.

Ni-mh: Still used for some devices, has slight memory effect but not enough to have to fully drain before the recharge, should not be consistently left on charger after full charge that can eventually burn out battery and shorten usage time.

Li-ion and Li-ion polymer: Used on a lot of newer devices, has no "memory" effect, should be recharged as often as possible, actually likes to be charged and draining it regularly can cause the usage time to be shortened, can never be overcharged so whenever you're near a charger put it on there. Besides those benefits a li-ion battery is lighter and smaller but the chemical can hold more charge than Ni-cad and Ni-mh.

So the one reply to your question said to error on the side of draining the li-ion batteries. This is incorrect information. You want to charge the battery before it gets below a 20% charge. Also batteries will not go bad from accidentally doing the incorrect charging procedure here and there but normally follow the correct procedure. One last note try to use the home charger more often than the cigarette lighter charger for best long term results. Cigarette lighter chargers do not give a full charge (about 95%) which in the long run can damage any type of battery listed.

Hope this helps.P.S. Every  battery will have those abbreviations to tell you what cehmical is inside the battery, even rechargable power tools which these charging procedures apply to also.

Canon camcorder battery question

I am sorry if this topic is not in the good forum, or is not directly related to DVD, but since it relates to a form of video, i decided to try to post my question in here. However, i wasn't sure in what section to post. Mods, feel free to move it if required.

I have a Canon DC100 analog camcorder. I'm very pleased with it, even if it's analog, it does well what I need it to do. The only problem is that that camcorder doesn't allow the use of third-party batteries. They won't charge, and the camera won't even start as it will display a "for InfoLithium battery only" error message. And those Canon branded camcorder batteries are way too expensive.

So, I'm wondering if someone knows if that "Infolithium" thing can be disabled somehow with a hack, key sequences, etc. I've tried googling for that but couldn't find anything useful. Since this site has some DVD hacks, maybe something similar exists somewhere for camcorders. If that kind of info doesn't exist, does someone know of a brand or supplier of third-party battery that does work with this camcorder and is compatible with the InfoLithium system ?

But maybe others have the same questions. Honestly speaking, a canon camcorder battery is too expensive in the brand store. If there are third-parties can supply the batteries which can also meet our needs, why not buy from them. Here is the link about a third - party who retails canon camcorder battery with good reputation. Hope this is useful for someone and he can check out to have a look around.

Laptop buying advice : How is a Laptop Battery Life?

I have found another laptop that has caught my eye on www.battery-replacement.org, i was just hoping to get some thoughts on how the two, the best buy IBM and this SONY would compare in performance. I am a college bound guy looking to make an investment in something that will be able to last for a couple of years and still take on games and stuff.

I saw that it was a more beefy (heavy) laptop and I don't think that is what I need. Going into college I need something that I can do classwork on and some gaming, not a lot though, whatever new Civ comes out TF2, maybe some more stuff, but I do need something that is portable with a decent laptop battery life and am willing to compromise some power. I have found this ASUS and I saw that it had the same kind of laptop battery life as the sony but wanted to get some feedback on it.

Hey its looks good.I think this laptops life will definitely comes for couple of years. before you buy read review of the particular model it will be very helpful to get details bout pros and cons of this model.

Load cordless drill battery best

How to load cordless drill battery if it have only two outputs (plus and minus), but charger have three ( plus, minus and loading level check)? Can i somehow trick charger to load this battery. Now when i connect only two connections (plus and minus), my baterry down't loads.Charger have two leds (one green and one red), only green lights, but red down't.

The third connection on the battery will be a temperature sensor to detect when the battery is charged. Maybe its Foked.

Sounds like the battery is not matched to the charger and you cannot use that charger to charge it. Did the battery come with the drill, or is it some off-brand replacement? Solution for someone with time on their hands and knowledge of electronics would be to rebuild the charger to use dV/dt to detect end-of-charge, but I wouldn't recommend that if you don't already understand about drill battery charging. I would recommend getting the right battery for the charger, or the right charger for the battery. If someone sold you the battery as being compatible, you should complain.

How to conserve camera battery power?

Your cameras battery life is very important. Without battery power you can quickly become useless. Here are some tips for making your cameras batteries last as long as possible.

Buy the Longlife Battery

Buying an additional long life battery is the easiest way to ensure that you have enough battery power to get you through your event. When you buy a long life battery keep your original battery charged as a spare for emergency situations.

 Charge The Camera  Battery

Camera batteries can lose charge when they have been stored for a long period of time. Even if you stored the battery at full charge plug your camera in the night before to make sure you get the most you can out of the battery when it matters.

 Use the Viewfinder

Using the LCD screen can be tempting to do when you are recording an event. The LCD screen uses more than twice the battery power than your cameras viewfinder does however. If you are in a situation where you want to conserve your cameras battery power then try to close the LCD screen and use the viewfinder instead.

 Watch Your Movie Later

It can be tempting to want to watch the funny event you just recorded. If you wait and watch the event later once your camera is plugged in then you will be able to save your battery power for recording more fun events.

 Make Your Movement Uniform

Turning your camera on and off and zooming in and out can take up a lot of battery power. You are going to want to zoom, and turning your camera off when you are going to stop recording for a while is a good idea. Try to keep things like that to a minimum when you can.

 Buy an External Battery Charger

If your camera uses itself as a battery charger then you may want to consider purchasing an additional external battery charger. If you have two batteries then you can leave one on the charger in the hotel room while you and your family are out for the day, stop back by in the afternoon and switch the battery on the charger for the battery on your camera. With an external battery charger you are able to have a battery constantly charging and also always have use of your camera.
