How to use 7.4v camcorder batteries?
I'd like the idea of using an aftermarket camcorder battery pack, like this one .Similar items are relatively inexpensive (20-30 usd for a 3500MAh capacity) but I have no idea on how to convert them : I guess some leads soldering would be needed, but will the leads interfere with the charger's contacts? Is this a viable alternative to 18650 battery pack?
They probably have 18650 camcorder batteries inside the pack. If you're only going to use it for the batteries, you can just tear it apart and harvest the cells. But, if it's aftermarket, it probably has cheap Chinese 18650 cells so it might be easier to get them directly from DX.I bought one of these to replace a cordless screwdriver and use the other replacement battery with my headlight. I was able to fashion a plug that goes into the battery leads.
I used to use camcorder batteries all the time when 7.4v was enough for me.Never had any problems but you have to solder a lead wth the correct connector for your light to the battery but also a lead to mach up with the one on the battery to the + &- pins on the charger. Then to charge you just plug the two leads together and charge ouside of the charger.Hope that makes sense as it don't think I explained it too well.
My brother bought a CANON BP-508 7.4v 1500mah battery and charger for $9.99 recently and am going to use it as a rear blinkie with a single XPG. It works fine and is easy to solder leads so the battery can be used in the charger.
