How Do I Get More Battery Life Out of My Laptop?
I have a Toshiba Satellite brand laptop and, when I have it running on it's battery power, I only get a minute or so before it automatically goes into standby mode when it runs out of power. How do I get more power out of my laptop battery?
Additional Details
I have tried changing the power settings for it. When I first unplug the power cord when it is fully charged, it will say I have over an hour of battery life left, but within a minute or so, it will tell me i have 3 minutes or less left on the battery.
The battery is dead; it is no longer capable of holding much of a charge, and it will need to be replaced. Replacement batteries are fairly easy to find, but sometimes expensive.
In terms of preserving the life of your new battery, try to keep the battery cool. Computers often heat up when they're left running or are used on a soft surface. To preserve battery life, use your computer on a hard surface and keep it away from heat sources. If you're on AC power for long periods, it will help to take the battery out.
Finally,I buy a brand new laptop battery from online battery shop www.battery-retailer.com very good, low price, high quality!
If I replace it will my computer be faster? How offen do you need to replace your laptop battery?
I would say I've had my laptop for a good 2 1/2 years. Its begining to slow down and Lags alot when I play games on it that work perfectly with my desktop. Do I need to replace my rechargeable battery? If I do will it help with the slowness or just the life of the battery.
Batteries don't have anything to do with the speed of your Laptop. Replace laptop battery only when you want you laptop to have longer life, or when you feel that there's something wrong with the battery. Memory is a minor deal with the speed and the RAM is a major. Too much memory on your computer can slow it down, I suggest using only 3/4 of your memory in your laptop. RAM is the big deal. It stores up cache which also deals with memory. It's also built with the role of speeding up the computer. A 2gb ram should do the trick. Replacing batteries don't speed up the computer. If you already have a 2gb RAM, and your laptop is still slow, i suggest deleting the cache. If that doesn't work, contact a computer specialist/technician.
It will only improve laptop battery life, and how long it lasts on battery power. The lagging shouldnt have much to do with it really. But after 2 1/2 years its probably due a replacement battery anyway..Thats not a problem with your battery, sounds like your memory is getting low on your computer. A new battery wont help it be faster, just last longer when its not plugged up to an outlet.
Your battery has absolutely nothing to do with the speed of your computer. You probably have too many subprograms running or you need to clean your registry. Go into msconfig and turn off any applications that take lots of RAM and you recognize as not being used.
I tried it. I replaced a 234mb ram with a 2gb ram for my desktop computer and it works like heaven. The symptoms you have are not at all related to a bad battery. When a apple laptop battery goes bad, the power it supplies to your laptop diminishes after time. In other words, it may keep the laptop running 2 hours, then 1.5, 1 and so on. Sometimes, bad batteries can also precent the laptop from functioning properly too. If you get ample time on battery power, I am sure yours is fine.

Problem Statement
The problem is: Which battery lasts the longest out of four different brands, Duracell, Energizer, Eveready and Rayovac?
Hypothesis
We think that Duracell will last the longest because their advertising claims that no other battery "beats the copper top."
Materials
- Four of the same type, size and brand flashlights.
- Two D-size batteries from each of the following brands:
- Duracell
- Energizer
- Eveready
- Rayovac
- Two other D-size batteries to test each flashlight and bulb before starting tests.
Procedure
We tested each of the flashlights by using the two test batteries. We then labelled each flashlight with the battery brand name and put the different batteries in each marked flashlight.
Before going to bed we will turn on all the flashlights at the same time and left them on overnight. We'll note down the time that the flashlights were turned on. When we wake up we will watch the flashlights until they go out and will record the time. If one goes out before we wake up, we will get two more of the same type of battery and watch it during the day.
Variables
Our variable is the different brand of batteries. The controlled condition is the same type of flashlights.
Results
Our experiment showed that Rayovac outlasted all of the other batteries we tested by at more than two hours. The Eveready battery, which is a regular, non-alkaline battery, lasted only 6 hours and 35 minutes. The Duracell lasted 15 hours. The Energizer lasted 22 hours and 15 minutes. The Rayovac lasted 24-1/2 hours.
The Eveready flashlight went out during the night, so we had to replace the batteries and watch it during the daytime. It was the only non-alkaline battery. We observed that when it was going dead, it got very dim. The alkaline batteries just went out completely.
